Easter Party – An Annual Tradition

Every Spring Mr. Bunny stands in our yard reminding us
Easter is on its way. Though my kids are now too old for
Easter parties, (at least they think so) Mr. Bunny is still the
central figure in our traditional photo.

When my children were young I began hosting annual Easter
parties.  It was the one time of year they did not demand the
party theme to be the most recent movie or cartoon hero. The
Easter party was an expression of my own creativity and I
enjoyed every minute of it, or should I say every year of it?

Planning began as soon as one season ended. I took
advantage of clearance sales for paper products, craft items
and small gifts to fill plastic eggs. When the next season
arrived, I set the party date and penned a poetic invitation.
Inexpensive invitations were created using a computer and
colorful paper.

Two to three age appropriate craft activities were planned
and a sample made of each. One project was located at
each table. In the center of the table was a container with all
of the needed materials such as: gluesticks, stapler, colored
paper, crayons, etc. If children are pre-school age some of
the items need to be pre-cut. As children arrived they began a
craft activity and rotated to each table. This enabled children
to work at his or her own pace. Face painting and other
activities filled the time between arrivals and while everyone
completed crafts. Some activities became an annual tradition.

One such tradition was the “bunny hop race” where two
teams relayed using well-worn grass-stained pillowcases
as toe sacks. After crafting and games the children ate a
healthy snack or light lunch. Then they gathered in the front
yard around Mr. Bunny for the annual portrait while a few
parents hid eggs in the backyard. The youngest children
were allowed a few minutes head start at hunting eggs and
then the race was on. A stampede of children filled the
backyard hesitating long enough to break confetti eggs on
each other.

My children are now late teens to mid-twenties and still enjoy
hunting eggs, especially the confetti ones. Plastic eggs filled
with chocolate or money will lure any age!

Welcome! Here you will find favorite recipes – some of my own, and several shared by friends. It gives me pleasure
to serve an appetizer, dessert, or entrée that’s new and different and everyone seems to enjoy. I must admit that I
enjoy the compliments and the feeling when making others feel special.

There are situations when I want to reach out to someone and do something special. It may be a time of loss or a
time of celebration and I just want to let them know that I am thinking of them. If they live in another city, or I am
squeezed for time I cheat a little and send a surprise package in the mail. Check out some of my favorite links for
gourmet food and unique gifts.

Need some fresh ideas for hosting an event ? You are at the right place! You are invited to share your favorite
recipes and if you have a story about your recipe or a fond memory associated with it, by all means, share it too!
